From Upper Yubeng to Lower Yubeng, then the waterfall, return around 16km.
This waterfall is a place the prayers must arrive at. The water comes from the melting of the snow on Meili mountain. So the prayers believe that the water is from immortal. When they arrive at the waterfall, they will pour a bottle of the immortal water and take it home. They believe it’s magic water that can cure any disease. I poured a bottle, but on the way back to Yubeng I drank the whole bottle because we were so thirsty.

Yubeng, a quite small village that has not been polluted. There is no road for buses nor cars, only a small path for human and mules. It’s not encouraged to build any road there. This is the place be taken as the veriest Shangri-La.
It’s not a touring place, but more and more backpacker and hikers get to know Yubeng and visit there. Compared with the tourists to Lijiang, it’s not a big number. So Yubeng still keeps the original look. On the way to Yubeng, we saw that most of the hikers are from overseas. They were exhausted. Walking on the place with high altitude is not as easy as on the plain, even worse, we have to walk upwards.

From here, we’ve entered the pure Tibetan area. Meili mountain is situated on the border b/t Yunan province and Tibet.
Feilai temple, the best place to watch goden peaks of Meili mountain at sunrise. So if u plan to watch sunrise, it’s absolutely a good idea to live at Feilai temple the night before. But actually it is unusual to see the goden peaks. The peaks of the mountains are often surrounded with clouds due to the high altitude they are. And this makes more interestings for Meili. There’s a kind of saying that, if any Japanese appears in this area then people can’t see the golden peaks that day. This is because Japanese are not welcomed by Tibetan people. Yes, they hate Japan and Japanese, just like people in notheast of China.

b/f i jumped on this trip, i just planed to go to Meili Mountain and I did do research, but not fairly enough. If you didn’t do detailed research b/f u travel, the bad thing is u may miss out some nice places that you should and must be. But, the good thing is there will be many surprises on the way without knowing.
