It is on the northwest to Lijiang. And it’s the last stop on our way back to Lijiang. This place is getting more and more popular, and it’s got a clear name that can be easily searched out from google. It has been divided into three parts: the Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge, the Middle T.L. Gorge and the Lower T.L. Gorge. The Middle and the Lower are more popular to hikers. The Upper is so calm, and a plank road has been built along the cliff, so it is popular to the touring team. We were hiking in the Middle one.
There is one living place I have to mention here: Tina’s. We stay there for one night. When got there at evening, it was very busy in the dining hall. And I saw most of them are foreigners. When I was preparing this trip, I found out two famous places at this area. One is Tina’s, the other is Halfway which is a bit cheaper. Both of them are welcome among foreign travelers. The living condition is quite nice. The hostess, Tina, is a Naxi lady. She never gone to school, but her English is very good. All the waitresses at Tina’s can speak some kind of English. Unlike the Tibetan’s forthright, Naxi people are careful in details. The outside of the inn is decorated as Naxi traditional style,
but the inside of the rooms are quite modern, even better than those ones in Lijiang. It’s got satellite TV in every room, with more than 100 channels, including foreign channels.
They even have menus for foreigners. Tina’s has three buildings. The two on the edge of the cliff are the new ones. The original one is on the other side of the road. Tina’s can be easily found.
It’s just next to the bridge. And if you keep on drving, you can arrive at Halfway, which is also nice.
Some simple wood signs can be found on the way in the Middle Gorge, it points out the direction and other info, using both Chinese and English. Another interesting thing is the upright ladder that to climb up to the highway. It is absolutely upright. It looks very dangerous, but it’s not, because it has been resettled using an iron ladder firmed on the old wooden one. But when you are climbing, you can be frightened if you turn your head and look on your back, even though you know it’s safe.
