5. Yubeng, the veriest Shangri-La
Yubeng, a quite small village that has not been polluted. There is no road for buses nor cars, only a small path for human and mules. It’s not encouraged to build any road there. This is the place be taken as the veriest Shangri-La.
It’s not a touring place, but more and more backpacker and hikers get to know Yubeng and visit there. Compared with the tourists to Lijiang, it’s not a big number. So Yubeng still keeps the original look. On the way to Yubeng, we saw that most of the hikers are from overseas. They were exhausted. Walking on the place with high altitude is not as easy as on the plain, even worse, we have to walk upwards.
From Xidang hotspring to Nanzong yakou (12km upwards), which is the most difficult part.
Then, walk 5km downwards to upper Yubeng. (Yubeng village has been divided into two parts. Upper Yubeng and
The living condition in Yubeng is the worst one during our trip, but, it is the most unforgettable one. We lived in the biggest inn there, but, the room is quite simple, only have the beds, and rooms were divided by woods. Fortunately, my room is face to the snow mountain. When I open the wood window, the mountain is right there. Nothing’s better than this! More surprisingly, the inn has a solar energy water heating system. So that means we can take hot shower! We even found some basins to take a spa for our feet, sitting in front of the snow mountains. What a wonderful moment!
The local Tibetans are quite hospitable. Most of them can’t say Mandarin, but they wave their hands and smiled when they saw us, the outcomers. And that night we were welcomed to a Tibetan’s home. They were holding a party for Peach blossom festival, which is a big festival there. It’s the first time I had chang. It’s nice, and pure. The host continuously poured our cups with chang again and again. This is their way to welcome guests. And we took photos with them, they really like that. The people are simple, they are lovely.
It’s got Yubeng primary school there, which is acturally a small and old house with a few rooms. The condition is totally terrible, compared with the schools in city. Some snotty Tibetan kids looked at us with shy smile.
